Talc to Tape

Talc to Tangent galvanometer
Talc.Soapstone used in making paper lubricants, and toilet preparations.
Talkback. A simple voice announcement SYStem huill imo may recording consoles so the engineer can communicate with performers in the
studio. A microphone built into or plugged into the console is generally pushbutton activated, simultaneously mutting the control room monitor speakers and turning on the studio monitor speakers. (The engineer can of course hear the performers reply by releasing his talkback button and listening to live mics in the studio over the control rook monitors.)
Talking machine. An early-model phonograph.
Talking picture. A motion with accompanying synchronized sound.
TaUs (tails out). A tape recording that is stored without being rewound, Le., with the tail-end of the tape outermost on the reel. Tails out storage is popular because' the tape pack tends to be smoother, hence safer, than if. the tape has been rewound.
Tallow. Made from quantity is used in the manufacture of lubricating greases and leather dressings
T~:ly. A system of auto intercommunication among various members ofthe video production crew. A talIy light is set on top of each camera and glows when that camera is the one on the line as the programme signal camera. ing.. Used in large quantities for furniture and paneling. Very usual irain effeCls are ob(aincd wHh Tamo veneer.

Tangent. Touching a line or surface at a point without intersecting.
Tangent of an angle. (Math.) The. quotient of the opposite side divided by the adjacent side.
Tangent galvanometer. A type of galvanometer in which a smaIl magnetic needle is pivoted horizontalIy at the centre of a vertical coil that is adjusted to be paralIel to the horizontal component of earth's magnetic field. When a current I is passed through the coil, the needle is dcflected so that it makes an angle with the equilibrium position parallel to the earth's field. The value of I is given by 1= 2 Hr. tane/n. where H is the strength of the eart\1's horizontal

component of magnetic force, r is the radius of the coil, and n is the number of turns in the coil.
Tangible. Evident;. real.
Tangential. Being or moving in the direction of a tangent; divergent. Tank. (Auto. Mech.) The container for
gasoline on an automobile.
Tannin or tannic acid. (Chern.) A lustrous, faintly yellowish, amorphous powder (CI4H'OOg), obtained in the form of brownish white shining scales from gall nuts, sumac, tea, etc. Used in dyeing, tanning, etc., and in medicine as an astringent.
Tantalum. (Metal.) A ductile, acidresistant, white lustrous metal obtained from tantalite. Much used as a filament in electric-light bulbs and
radio tubes. Marketed in the form of wire and rods.
Tap. ~e process of cutting threads with a tap. (Mach.) A fluted, threaded tool for cutting female or
, inside threads. (Mech. Drg.) An indication that a hole is to be tapped. It is usually indicated thus: I Y2-6 NC-2, which means that the hole is to be tapped which a 1 Y2-in. tap, 6 National Coarse threads per inch, to a class 2 fi t.
Tap bolt. (Mach.) A bolt usually threaded for its entire length. It is finished only on the point and the underside of the head. Tap bolts are made with both square and hexagon heads.
Tape. (Eillgin.) A flexible, measuring scale made in thin steel, or of linen or cotton, usually ~ontained in a circular case into which it may be

rewound after use. (Tel.) Plastic tape with magnetic coating on which audio or video recordings are made. Stored either on open reels or much more common now, in cassettes.
Tape desk. Tape equipment comprising complete tape transport system, with motors, drive pulleys, linkage etc., as well as pre-amplifiers for recording and playback, but no power amplifier or speakers. Usually open-reel only.
Tape echo. The art of using a threeheaded .tape recorder to produce delayed signal FX, such as ADT, slapback echo and flanging/chorusing (for which your chosen machine will need a carispeed). You simply feed signals to the syne head and replay them from the monitor head. The aforementioned time lag between the two heads is your source of delay. Running the tape at fast speeds and fluttering the varispeed at the same time will result in chorusing and flanging, while having the tape run at very slow speeds of perhaps 17/Sips will enable you to create very deep and long delays. Tape echo has its drawbacks-mainly the hiss you get from running even lA-inch tape at less than 7.Sips, but also the incon~ venience of having to change the tape every once in a while.
Tape guide. Groove pins or rollers mounted on 'a tape recorder to hold the tape in the proper position for the heads and reels. Tape-head. Component scanned by
