Tripper to Tumbler gear

Tripper. (Shopwk.) A mechanism or part that suddenly reltases another part. A "throw-out" or "shut-ofr'
device operated either by hand or by power.
Trisect. (Draw.) To divide into three equal parts.
Trolley. (Elec.) A small wheel or a sliding contact usually at the end of a pole, used for the transfer of cur­rent for the operation of equipment. (Mech.) The head which supports a chain hoist and which is equipped with wheels to permit its motion on the beam or track which carries it.
Trombone. A musical wind instru­ment consisting of a cylindr4cal metal tupe expanding into a bell and bent twice in U-shape, usually equipped with a slide. Tropical. Pertaining to, characteris­tic of, occuring in, or inhabiting the tropics.
TropicaIize. To adapt to make suit­able for use in tropical regions.
Troposphere. Region of Earth's atmosphere beneath iono sphere, reaching to an altitude of approx, eight kilometers.
TroubIe lamp. (Eke.) An electric lamp at the end of a long extension cord used for bringing light to the source of trouble on repair, jobs, etc.
Trrowel. (Fdry.) Foundry trowels are small and narrow, usually about 1 ~ in. wide and 5 or 6 in. long.
Troy weight. A weight of 12 ounces to the pound, used by goldsmiths and jewelers. 24 grains (g.) = I pennyweight (dwt.) 20 pennyweights = I ounce (oz.) 12 ounces. = I pound (lb.)

True airspeed meter. (Aero.) A type of anemometer which measures the true speed of an aircraft with rela­tion to the air.
Trunnion. (Mech.) One of two oppo­site cylindrical supporting lugs or projections from the side of an object, which allows it to be turned as on an axis.
Truss. (Arch.) A built-up. framework of triangular units for supporting loads over long spans (Furn.) A rigid frame, used in pairs to sup­port the ends of a piece of furni­ture. These trusses are usually con­nected with some form of stretcher.
Trussed axle. (Auto.) An axle stiff­ened by the use of a truss rod. (See truss rod.)
Trussed beam. (Arch.) A beam stiff­ened by a truss rod.
Truss rod. (Engin.) A rod attached to the ends of a trussed beam, through which the strain. due to downward pressure iE transmitted.
Try square. (Mech.) A small square used by mechanics in testing squareness of their work; also used to layoff right angles.
T slot. (Mach.) A recessed, undercut slot made in the table of a mill­ing, planning, or other machine, to receive the head of a T bolt. The slot permits the easy adjust­ment of the bolt to the position desired.
T -slot cutter. (Mach.) A milling cut­ter for finishing the side portion of T slots.

T square. \Arch.) A draftsman's tool, consisting of a blade from 2 to 3 in. wide and from 1 to 5 ft. long, attached at right angles to a head, which is at least twice as thick as the blade; used for ruling parallel, horizontal lines.
T/Stop. A rating of a lens in terms of its ability to transmit light; the trans­mission ability, or transmission stop, of a lens; more exact in terns of a lens transmission ability than an fl stop rating, but no more helpful than the flstop when working with a video camera; used on some lenses in film and still phot<?graphy in place of f/stop.
Tube. (Elec.) A general term includ­ing the devices used as a part of the apparatus for amplifying the detect­ing radio and other small currents and rectifying a.c. to d.c.
Tube, cathode-ray. An electron tube which contains an electron gun and which can reproduce a signal in the from of a picture on its face. Tube, diode. An electron tube with two elements.
Tube punch. (Leather.) A hand punch shaped somewhat like a pair of pliers and having a hollow tube or tubes for punching holes for snaps, eyeleL.., etc. Thbe tester. A device used to test the condition of electron tubes.
Tub-sizing. (Papermkg.) A process of surface sizing in which the web of paper is placed in the size vat.
Tubular axle. (Auto.) Axle made of. steel tubing.
Thbular radiator. (Auto.) A radiator made up of many tubes through which the water of the cooling sys­tem circulates.
Thdor style. (Arch.) The' architec­ture of England during the reign of the Tudors. General reference is to the time of Henry VIII.
Turting. (Uphol.) Sewing through both stuffing and outer covering in order to hold stuffing in place. Each tuft is usually marked by a button to improve appearance and to pre­vent the twine from cutting through the covering.
Thlip tree. (Wood) Commonly spo­ken of as poplar or tulip poplar. Wood is light yellow in colour, soft, and easily worked; it has a wide variety of uses, many simi­lar to white pine.
Thmble. (Fdry.) To clean castings or forgings in a rotating drum by means of friction.
Tumbled. (Print.) When a printed sheet is backed up by turning it from top to bottom, instead of from right to left, it is said to be tum­bled. This should be avoided if possible.
Tumbler gear. (Sltopwk.) An inter­mediate gear in a train of gears serving to reverse the direction of the driven gear.
