Digester to Direct-current

Digester. (Papermkg.) The receptacle in. which the wood chips are cooked under pressure with chemicals and reduced to tiny fibers.
Digit. (Math.) Anyone of the numbers from one to nine and zero. These digits separately or in combination are used to represent numbers.
Digital. A numerical representation of the actual analog frequency and level of an audio signal. "Digital" also may refer to a control or circuit which changes the level or the assignment of a signal in discrete mathematical steps rather than continuously variable amounts.
Digital art. There are basically two effects in this category: "mosaic", which breaks the picture up into hundreds of tiny squares, and "solarization" (or "posterization"), which exaggerates colors for an almost painterly effect.
Digital delay. Describes the electronic process by which the signal is delayed; stores biilary numbers (digital processing) that represent the analog signal voltage levels.
Digital effects. Any number of special effects that are handled via digital circuitry; these may include freeze-frames, slow-motion and so on.
Digital readout. A display which indicates voltage, level, frequency, channel assignment, or other values by means of numerical representation rather then by meter or progressive lights. Digital readouts may utilise LEDs, LCDs, nixie tubes, or

Dimming resistor. (Elec.) Inserted in a lamp circuit to reduce the luminous intensity of the lamp, e.g., head lamps.
Di~pling. (Rivet.) A method of forming a depression in thin metal to house the rivet head.
DIN (Deutsche Industrie Normen). German Industrial Standards. In audio, the German standard of plugs, sockets, etc. DIN is used as a standard in many European countries.
Dinging hammer. (Metal.) A hand hammer used for removing dents and bends from sheet metal.
Dinking die. (Shopwk.) A small die or punch used for cutting holes in cloth, leather, paper, etc. It may be operated in a machine or as a hand punch aided by blows of a hammer. .
Diode. Crystal or valve with two elements having high back-to-front resistance ratio.
Diode (Rad.) A vacuum tube; a two electrode rectifier. Diode, zener. A special type of diode that is used to regulate voltages to specific values.
Dip angle. The angle which lines of magnetic force at any place make with the horizon.
Dip brazing. (Weld.) By this process the work is immersed into the molten spelter until the parts are heated sufficiently to be united by it.
Diphthong. (Print.) A combination of two vowels into one sound as, re in Phrenix.
Dipole antenna. (Tel.) An antenna consisting of two conductors of equal length in the same straight line, with a pair of lead wires connected at the inner ends, is known as a doublet or dipole antenna. For short waves the physical dimensions are such that self-supporting metal rods or tubes can be used.
Direct action. (Mach.) Mechanical movement in which no intermediate is employed.
Direct curent. (Elec.) A current flowing in one direction. In a dynamo the current generated alternates, Qut it may be converted into direct current by a commutator. ""
Direct-current arc welding. An arc welding process wherein the power
