Direct feed. Refers to an audio path where the signal is routed from one point directly to another without passing through additional amplifiers or signal processors. A direct feed from a mixing console generally' refers to a feed from each mixing point (channel), usually after the preamp and equaliser, that is applied directly to another point without going through the console's submaster and/or master mixing busses as normal.
Direct indexing. (Mach.) Direct indexing on the milling machine is done in such a manner that the spindle and the work mounted thereon revolve through identical angles with the indexing plate.

Direction of magnetic flux. (Elec.) The direction is always from the north to the south pole in a magnetic field.
Direction signal. (Auto.) An electrical device used on trucks and buses to indicate the direction In which the driver intends to turn.
Directivity factor. For a loud-speaker, this is measurement of how much the speaker focuses the sound in a given direction. Directivity is measurd by taking the ratio of the average sound level in front of the speaker (at a given distance and frequency).
Director. Element in VHF antenna system placed in front of main dipole to improve sensitivity in forward direction.
Direct radiation. (phys.) When the heating of a room is effected by steam or hot-water radiators within the room, the method is called direct radiation.
Dirigible. (Aero.) That which can be directed or is steerable, as a dirigible balloon. A noun to indicate an air-ship.

Discolouration. (Plast.) Any change from an initial colour possessed by a plastic.. A lack of uniformity in colour where colour should be uniform over the whole area of a plastic object. In the latter sense, where they can be applied, use the more definite terms "mottle, segregation. or two-tone."
