Item Per Inch
Unit of measurement resolution, used mainly for monitors and printers. In French one speaks of Dots Per Inch (PPP) or Pixels Per Inch, which is a bit different, in English we speak of Dots Per Inch (DPI) or Pixels Per Inch (PPI). Note: one inch (inch) equals 2.54 cm.
The more dots per inch, the better the resolution of an image. The details you see may be thinner.
For example, a conventional screen can display 75 ppi, while a printer can save at least 300 dots per inch on paper. This partly explains why an image that appears good on screen may be of lower quality when printed.
The difference between Points and Pixels Per Inch is that the printer needs to put more points to print a pixel.
