Definition of product life cycle

Definition of product life cycle, collaborative Visions, CIM Data point of view

Section II the definition of product life cycle management

With regard to the concept of product life cycle management, and other hot topics like information technology, foreign research institutions and consulting firms are given a wide variety of definitions. How to define PLMIs a very important issue. This will help the market's understanding of PLM will help customers in the manufacturing industry groups are promoting the use and implementation of PLM. However, it is regrettable that, due to PLM is a rapid development, a relatively new field of information technology on research in this area is not much research in this area and is engaged in a number of consulting firms, manufacturers between There are a number of different views and therefore there is no generally accepted definition and interpretation of the PLM. This article lists some well-known consulting firm, the discussion given in the hope that readers will eyes of the beholder, the wise see wisdom, to learn some of their own construction of enterprise information useful point of view and ideas.

CIM Data point of view

CIM Data that the PLM (Product Lifecycle Management, Product Lifecycle Management) is a strategic business model, which applies a series of mutually consistent business solutions in support of product information across the enterprise and product life cycle (from concept to end of life) the creation, management, distribution and use, it integrates people, processes and information elements."

At present, the manufacturer being the new competition. In order to meet fast-changing customer demand, manufacturing enterprises operate according to goods moving from production to press a single assembly and by a single design. In addition, due to outsourcing trends and customer's individual requirements, there must be a collaborative product life-cycle process, in order to help manufacturers to achieve low-cost, high-quality, shorten product time to market, product and other fitness goals. These are the PLM scope of the study.

CIM Data model diagram of the PLM. CIM Data from the PLM framework of the map, we can see that the focus of PLM is still the traditional PDM with Program management. CIM Data consulting firm believes that any industrial enterprises in the product life cycle by three closely intertwined with the basic life cycle of the composition, which are: product definition life cycle, product life cycle and operational support life-cycle [27]. Product definition life cycle begins with the initial customer requirements and product concept to end of product obsolescence and field service support, the object of study as an intellectual resource of products, including product is how to design, manufacture and service information; product life cycle and production and shipment of such business activities related to the management object is the physical sense of the product; operational support life cycle are mainly required to operate the enterprise infrastructure, human, financial, and (manufacturing) a unified monitoring and deployment of resources.

AMR's point of view

AMR chaired by a named "2001-2006 PLM application report" a detailed study report, which classified the solution to the contents of PLM applications can be divided into four parts:

Product data management (PDM) plays a central role in the data warehouse, which holds all the information product definition. From these central warehouse, enterprise management and production of various types of R & D associated with a list of materials (BOM).

Collaborative Product Design (CPD) so that engineers and designers to use CAD / CAM / CAE software, and all of these systems used in conjunction with complementary software to develop products with synergistic manner.
⑶ Product Portfolio Management (PPM) is a toolset for the management of its portfolio to provide decision support, including new products and existing products. PPM tool set has three parts: the daily tasks for the coordination of project management; used to handle more than one outline of the project management; used to understand how to co-exist in the market product portfolio management.
⑷ Customer Needs Management (CNM) is a kind of access to sales data and market feedback, and put them into product design and development process software. As reflected in the name, it is an analytical tool that can help manufacturers to develop based on customer demand, marketable products.
Figure 2.3 is the AMR of the PLM framework diagram, the framework seems to be rather rich in content and clarity. PLM covers all stages of product life cycle, providing a central database to capture and use of each stage of the data and information. Applied PLM system can bring many benefits to enterprises, as follows:

Design Concept: Based on market information, access to new products or product design improvement concepts.
The market demand analysis: manufacturing enterprises explore new products in the market demand, and needs to satisfy feasibility. PLM system from other systems connected to extract information, and increase the accuracy of the analysis of market demand.

Design: Design engineers PLM system provides information (service information, technical data, customer needs and preferences, etc.) for product design.
Procurement: Procurement personnel manufacturing the required components, materials, components and equipment preliminary analysis. PLM system provides the device / material availability, pricing, potential suppliers, alternative devices and other information.
Production: According to the R & D engineers create the design specifications and procurement of devices and materials for production. Through the quality control / quality control or other process control methods to check whether the design specifications for the production line.

Distribution: Products shipped to distributors, distributors of storage of goods awaiting customer orders; or products directly to end customers. PLM system provides historical demand data, resulting in lower inventory levels.
Service: product maintenance, service and maintenance. The use of PLM store a variety of after-sales service information for future product improvement information.

To date, the core business for manufacturing enterprises a comprehensive large-scale application of new technology has not yet attracted sufficient attention. However, manufacturing enterprises have been active in the face of the product life cycle management challenges. Manufacturing industry needs new technology to create a real-time sharing of product information work platform. PLM is a technical assistance strategy, which extend beyond business processes and different user groups together that single-point application integration. With the ERP difference, PLM will not be tightly integrated with a software vendor systems, PLM will not repeal existing systems, it will use the process modeling tools, visualization tools, or other collaborative technologies, combined with a certain degree of semantic integration to integration of existing systems.

Aberdeen's point of view

PLM is the product coverage from birth to the demise of the whole process of product life cycle, open, interoperable set of applications. Building such an enterprise information environment, the key is, there must be a record of all product information, systematic knowledge base of the central product data.
The knowledge base used to protect data and achieve task-based access (for example: frequently used three-dimensional visual count function) and as a collaborative platform to share applications, data, and to achieve through the whole enterprise, data access across all firewalls. PLM the role could cover a product from concept design, manufacture; use until the end of life every link.

Collaborative Visions point of view

PLM is a great potential of the business IT strategy, which focuses on how companies in a settlement on the basis of sustainable development, develop and deliver innovative products associated with all major issues.
PLM includes full use of the products across the supply chain, product innovation and intellectual assets to achieve the maximization of product research and development to improve the speed and agility and enhance the delivery of customized and tailor-made products for the user the ability to satisfy customers.
To PLM as the core enterprise information technology for sustainable development to highlight the strategic thinking to support continuous innovation, we must make full use of corporate intellectual assets. Enterprise organization and implementation of PLM strategies for the overall framework is designed around six major demand to construct, referred to as "PLM ACTION". The six requirements are:
Adjustment (Alignment) - balance of investment in enterprise information technology spending to increase investment in PLM
Collaboration (Collaboration) - with business partners to exchange insights, ideas and knowledge, rather than the CAD data
Technology (Technology) - access to new technologies to create intellectual assets of the ecosystem
Innovation (Innovation) - developing customer-driven, industry "killer" category of innovative products
The opportunity (Opportunity) - is committed to interdisciplinary integration, the pursuit of the product life cycle of a new opportunity
Intellectual Assets (Intellectual Property) - the product of knowledge as a strategic asset to be treated and fully utilized.

Point of view

Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) is a vision; it is the process and information content and product value chain link, rationalization, integration and optimization. PLM enables manufacturer’s liberation of information and control the power of information to create business value products. Completely successful if implemented, PLM enables manufacturers to do more or less: improving the profitability of time, more agility, more collaborative work. At the same time, PLM also allows manufacturers to achieve the following purposes: to make money (profit); delivery of new and better products; business growth; control risk; safe operation; business predictable; working order; and, ultimately, as we all work In terms of responsibility and authority within the scope of work together to serve clients, employees, for shareholders, as well as for the whole society to do the right thing.

PLM by the CAD, CAE (also called simulation), PDM, MPM (also known as digital manufacturing), BOM, CRM, CAM seven main pillars to support and jointly formed the core PLM solution set. Do not have the support of the seven elements; PLM will be prostrate on the ground, unable to stand. Pillars that support it less, it is based on the more weak.
