PLM in the business processes

PLM in the business processes, R & D collaborative era, exchange of CRM with ERP product, product version management

Section III of this book PLM framework of the proposed system
We can see from the information system architecture point of view, to understand the operation of collaborative commerce research and development situation. The late 90s, the entire enterprise e-focus on internal financial information and resources integration, supplier interaction, as well as the customer's operations, and thus the overall system architecture for ERP system as the core front-end in order to CRM as a customer contact with pipes, while the back-end SCM system to manage supply chains.
However, the R & D collaborative era, beginning with the core ERP system architecture has changed. Since the development of new products has become a business to meet customer needs, reduce product cost, the key to the pursuit of growth and profitability, R & D activity to replace the finance and accounting activities to become the core of e-Business operations. Constructed based on our own, "Norman architecture (Norman's Structure)" R & D activities, the source of all the activities of the enterprise, while the core of collaborative commerce framework would be "Product Data Management System (Product Data Management, PDM ) "or" Product Lifecycle Management System (Product Lifecycle Management, PLM) ". The entire R & D activities will be by the front-end CRM systems and customer contact, in the back-end is through the "e-procurement system, e-Procurement" or SCM system to communicate with suppliers; R & D activities for enterprise sales revenue, costs, profit contribution of will be through the ERP system response to the management of financial figures to know; R & D output "of new product information" will be spread to the bottom of MRP system into the production process.
We can see from the case of interaction between systems to understand the implementation of R & D operations. In Norman architecture, the system will be the first CRM product features customer needs, time and quantity of information transmitted PDM system, PDM systems will feedback information on product specifications, and functional test results are included. In the meantime, the exchange of CRM with ERP product demand quantity, delivery time, price, etc. In the R & D activities in the process of implementation and after, PDM and ERP will be the exchange of stock components, new products, spare parts inventory, etc.; the other PDM is exchanged with the e-Procurement number of new component specifications and requirements, as well as the upper reaches of new products, technologies, etc.; the same time PDM will also be delivered to the MRP product research and development of information systems. The other hand, ERP systems to communicate with the e-Procurement system, spare parts supply, price, etc., while the MRP system is to communicate with the e-Procurement production scheduling, spare parts supply and timing of such information.*#For the Product Lifecycle Management PLM, we recommend that from a business point of view and from an operational point of view of both sides
From a business point of view, PLM mainly covers:
Portfolio decision-making
Project investment decision-making
Resources into the decision-making
Project decision
Product and platform updates the decision-making
From an operational point of view, PLM mainly covers:
Requirements and design specifications
Parts reuse and procurement
Product Configuration
Product Costing
Product Version Management
As a result, we can easily draw the PLM in the business processes and operations covered by the process
At the same time, from the CIM Data, AMR, Gartner given the complexity of these confusion, the definition of its forms and manifestations, we are also not hard to see one of the commonalities and to reflect the issues:
First of all, the definition of complex and diverse description of the product life-cycle management that people's understanding not yet uniform. This is mainly three reasons: first, the product life cycle management of their own complexity. Product life-cycle management itself is a diversified, multi-level, multi-functional integrated objects cover a wide range of activities. Secondly, the product life-cycle management is a new thing, its connotation and extension is not very precise, but also with social, economic and scientific and technological development are constantly evolving. Thirdly, it is for different research purposes or purposes, from a different perspective on the "product life-cycle management" to a different understanding and interpretation.
Second, the definition of product life cycle management diversified, indicating product life cycle management as an important factor of production in economic development, whose role is growing. In an uncertain era of rapid change, knowledge becomes an increasingly important competitive advantage sources and therefore has become a consensus needs to be managed. Therefore, the product life cycle management of the growing importance of knowledge is consistent, and this has stimulated enterprises to actively develop knowledge, as a source of value creation.
Finally, the product life-cycle management is a combination of disciplines and technologies. It attempts to explain the beginning of product life cycle management technology embedded only to the rules and procedures to manage. As the practice of in-depth, it was discovered that information technology is just one of the essential factors.
PLM is not the Indian manufacturers of universal attention. A major reason is that Indian enterprises still in the information technology, a preliminary stage, competitive pressures forced the moment, companies focus or concentrate on product manufacturing and downstream distribution chain, not including product R & D, design, procurement, manufacturing and after-sales service, including collaborative product lifecycle management.

Another important reason why the same can not be ignored. PLM many people will understand the PLM wrongly interpreted as a technical issue. CIMS Research Center of India experts tend to use technical language describe PLM system, ignoring the associated management issues, so PLM / PDM as "863" research topics, rather than a systematic management system. In fact, this is a big misunderstanding; the implementation of PLM systems is a typical renovation project management. Need for corporate culture, strategy, organization, processes and other levels accordingly change.
