Effects send. A mixing console out­put that sends a signal to the input of an effects device. Most mixing consoles have an effects send level control for each input position (channel) so the musical mix sent to the device can be adjusted; many consoles also have a master

Effervescence. The escape of bub­bles of gas from a liquid otherwise that by boiling.
Efficiency. Ratio of output to input power in a transducer. In speaker systems, the percentage of electri­cal input available as acoustic out­put.
Emorescence. (Chern.) The chang­ing, on the surface or throughout, to a powder as a result of loss of water or a crystallization. (Bldg.) The for­mation of a whitish powder on the face of a brick or stone wall.
Emuent. (Plumb.) The liquid dis­charged from a septic tank or sew­age disposal plant.
EDT. Extra High Tension. Eggshell finish. (Papermkg.) A finish given to uncoated papers either woven or laid, the surface texture resembling eggehell.
Ejector. (Shopwk.) On a punch-press, a right, collar, or disk actuated by spring pressure or by pressure of a rubber disk, to remove blanks from the interior of compound and other dies often called a "shedder."

Ejector pin. (Plast.) A device. at knocks a finished piece from a mold.
Elastic. (Engin.) That condition which permits of a deformation when force is appHed and a return to original shape on the removal of such force.

Electric pyrometer. A sensitive pyrometer for exact temperature measurements. It utilizes the changes in electrical resistance of platinum when heated.
Electric steel. (Metal.) High quality steel produced in an electric fur­nace by a method vvhich eliminates most of the sulphur and phospho­rus. A cleaner steel with fewer defects is produced by this system than by most other methods.
Electrification. (Elec.) Charging a body with electrostatic charges.
Electroacoustic. Concerned with transduction of energy between electrical and acoustical forms.
Electrocheniical. Chemical action employing a current of electricity to cause or sustain the action.
Electrode. (Elee.) A pole of a battery or magnet, either positive or nega-. tive. (Weld.) The part or parts of a resistance welding machine through which the welding current and pressure are applied directly to the work.
Electroforming. (Plast.) Process of forming a mold cavity by electro­plating with iron, a master hob of metal, wood, glass, or plaster.
Electrolier. (Elee.) An electric fix­ture designed to hang from a ceil­ing.
Electrodynamic. Concerned with the interaction of electrical and dy­namic . mechanical processes. Commonly refers to moving-coil principle in loud-speakers.
