Outside caliper. (ShQPwk.) A caliper used for gauging outside measurements or sizes.
Outsirie gouge. "(WQQdwk.) A firmer gouge on which the bevel is ground upon the outside or convex face.
Outside loop. (Aem.) A loop starting from normal flight and passing sucessively through a dive, inverted flight; climb, and back to normal flight; the pilot being on. the outside of the flight path.
Outside roll. (Aem.) A roll executed while flying in the negative angleof-attack range.
Oval. (Math.) An egg-shaped figure, the curves of whose ends are unequal.
Overall. (Draw. and ShQPwk.) A common term in shopwrok meaning an outermost or total dimension.
Overall length. (Aem.) The extreme length from front to rear including propeller and tail unit.
Overcasting. (BQQkbndg.) The sewing over the back of the sections of a book.
Overdrive. (AutQ. Meeh.) An arrangement of gearing which produces more revolutions of the driven than of the driving shaft.
Overhand work. (MasQnry) Work on the outside of a wall performed from a scaffold built on the inside. of a wall.
Overhang. (AeTQ.) Used in two senses. (I) One half of the difference in span of any two main supporting surfaces of an airplane. The overhang is positive when the upper of the two main supporting surfaces has the larger span: (2) The distance from the outer strut attachment to the tip of the wings. " (Print.) Any part that projects beyond the main body of the type or slug. (WQQd Patmkg.) The projection of the cope half of a core print beyond the drag half, to give clearance, and to prevent the cope from touching the end surfaces of the core during the closing of the mold.
Overhanging pulley. A pulley carried on an overhanging shaft; that is, supported by-a bearing on one side only.
Overhaul. (Meeh.) To take apart, inspect, repair, and reassemble, as a piece of machinery.
Over-head cost. The cost of operating.a business, as for rent, interest on investment, maintenance and depreciation of equipment, etc.; over and above the actual cost of labour and material.
Overhead shafting. (ShQPwk.) Line shafting or counter-shafting suspended from the ceiling, from which power is transmitted to machines.
Overhead-valve motor. (AutQ.) A motor with all of the valves located in the head.
Over-heating. (AutQ.) The heating of an engine beyond the point of safe operation. Usually due to a defective cooling system or poor lubrication.
Overlay. (Print.) A piece of paper placed on the tympan of a press to compensate for a depression in the form or to make that part of the.
