Active Directory

An Active Directory is a directory structure used on Windows-based computers and servers to store information and data on networks and domains. Active Directory service or management is a key component of any process of administration, if Active Directory is deployed in your network environment.

Active directory (sometimes referred to as an AD) has a variety of functions including the ability to provide information about objects helps to organize these items for easy retrieval and access, allowing access by end users and administrators and allows the administrator to set up protection for the directory.

An Active Directory can be defined as a hierarchical structure and this structure is usually divided into three main categories, resources that may include hardware such as printers, services for end users, web servers and e-mail objects that are main functions of the domain and network.

What does Active Directory Management Software?

If you are a computer administrator for a large corporation or organization, you can easily update all users 'computers with new software, patches and files by simply updating an item in a forest or a tree.

Because each object is inserted into a pattern set and has specific attributes, an administrator can easily delete one person in a tree together or immediately give or deny access to select users for some applications. Two types of trusts that include Microsoft Active Directory trusts are transitive and do not trust transitive way. A transitive trust is a trust that when you go beyond two domains in a tree series, which means two entities are able to access any other domains and trees.

One way a transitive trust is when a user is allowed access to another tree or domain, however, the domain does not allow access to other domains further. This can be summarized as a network administrator and end user. The network administrator can access multiple trees in the forest, including the domain of a specific end user. However, the end user, while able to access their domain, can not access other trees.

It’s important to note that the active directories are a great way to organize a large organization or computers corporate data and network. Without Active Directory, most end users have computers that would need to be updated individually and without access to a wider network in which data can be processed and reports can be created. While the active directory can be largely technical and require considerable expertise to navigate, are essential for storing information and data on networks.
