XL-Type Connector (XLR). Describes any of several varieties of audio connectors having 3 or more conductors plus an outer shell which shields the connection and locks the mating connectors, 3-pin XLtype connectors are commonly used to make balanced mic and line level connections in professional audio
systems. The XL-type connector is sometimes called a "cannon" connector, so named for the original manufacturer although a number of companies now manufacture compatible 3-pin connectors.
X member. (Auto.) A pressed-steel channel construction built in shape like the letter X, and placed within the main frame assembly of an automobile.
XMTR. Abbreviation for "Transmit they were transparent. By means of these rays it is possible to see and to photograph shadows of bones, interior organs, etc., of the body. (Phys.) A popular name for Roentgen rays. A form of radiant energy sent out when the cathode rays of a Crookes tube strike upon the opposite walls of the tube or upon any object in the tube.
X-ray tube. A vacuum tube designed for producing X rays by accelerating electrons to a high velocity by means of an electrostatic field and then suddenly stopping them by collision with a target.
X-ray. Similar to gamma rays, and highly penetrating radiation, X rays do not come from the nucleus of the atom but from the surrounding electrons. These rays are produced by electric bombardment. The rays pass through most objects as though
